I would also consider adding heavy corbels to the fireplace mantle instead of the smaller ones that are currently there. I would also consider having the shelves and the fireplace mantle faux finished, either tone down the white with a glazing technique or a black distressed finish. I too do not like the desk area and would consider putting a cabinet door on it. I'm not a big fan of televisions above the fireplace, however, there are some great products that make them appear to be mirrors or pictures when not in use. As for the shelving, I think I would space them out more consistent and dress them with vignettes. In other words create a vignette with heavy and large objects. If you put some weighty accessories on top of the shelves on each side, ie: large pieces of pottery mixed with trunk, boxes and baskets or very large lanterns or bird cages with greenery or electric candles. ![]()
